Tottenham Hotspur are aiming to ensure Liverpool end the season without a trophy on Saturday evening in Madrid.

Liverpool narrowly missed out on the Premier League title and, after suffering defeat in Kiev last season, feel they deserve silverware for their exploits this season.


But Mauricio Pochettino’s resilient side are not here to make up the numbers in just the second all-English Champions League Final.


Spurs have defied the odds and battled back time and time again from adversity to reach Madrid, with their semi-final victory against Ajax a testament to their fortitude.


But they will have to do something they have never managed in their history in order to lift the famous trophy.

Tottenham have drawn two of their previous three games in Madrid, losing the other – all three fixtures against Real Madrid.


In fact, the Lilywhites have never won in Spain where their overall record is drawn three, lost three.


Their first game in Spain ended in defeat to Barcelona in 1983 – 37 years ago.


In their final group game of this season’s competition, Spurs secured a 1-1 draw at Camp Nou which secured their place in the round of 16.
