Sven-Goran Eriksson has told talkSPORT he would be ‘honoured’ to become Scotland manager after reports linked the former England boss with the vacant job.
Scottish newspaper Daily Record reported on Thursday that ex-Three Lions chief Eriksson had ‘contacted’ the SFA about succeeding Alex McLeish, who was sacked last week after just 12 matches in charge.
It was also claimed the Swedish coach’s name was on a list of leading candidates put forward during a board meeting at Hampden this week.
And, speaking exclusively to talkSPORT host Jim White, Sven insisted he is up for taking the job, admitting he would definitely discuss the position were he offered it.
However, he did say he’s never expressed his interest in the post, denying reports claiming he has thrown his hat into the ring.
“This is absolutely news to me,” Eriksson said on Thursday morning. “I never heard about it and I never thought about it.

“It comes out of the blue, so I have no idea, but of course I’m honoured. Scotland is a big job, it’s a huge football country.
“Would I speak about it? Yeah, why not. It’s not very polite if you don’t want to speak to people.
“But I haven’t thought at all about it. We’ll see if it’s happening, if there’s something behind it or not.â€
Eriksson revealed he still has a great appetite to return to management, although admitted he is ‘not a specialist’ on Scottish football.
The experienced boss has been out of work since January when he left his role as head coach of the Philippines national team, after suffering three defeats in the Asian Cup against South Korea, China and Kyrgyzstan.
He took that role in October 2018, after he was sacked by Chinese League One side Shenzhen following a run of nine games without victory.

But, asked if he has a hunger to return to football, the 71-year-old added: “Yes absolutely.
“The passport is saying I am a certain age, but I don’t feel it. I still like to work, I love football.
“So if something interesting comes up I will go for it. If nothing happens, okay, that’s it. We’ll see.
“There are a lot of people still going at my age and doing well – Roy Hodgson is one of them. I don’t feel old and I’m healthy, so I hope to sit on the bench again one day.
“I haven’t followed Scottish football for some years. I’ve seen some games and know some players but I’m not a specialist on it in this moment, absolutely not.
“But if you take on any football job it’s a challenge, it’s a full-time job for sure, more than full-time.â€
