Pablo Hernandez omitted from the Championship Team of the Season and Leeds United fans are stunned

Pablo Hernandez may well be one of Leeds United’s star men, but he has not done enough to impress those picking the Championship Team of the Season.

The 34-year-old is a vital member of Marcelo Bielsa’s side and has scored 10 goals and registered 11 assists this season.

What is more impressive is the fact only Lionel Messi and Eden Hazard have reached double figures for goals and assists in Europe’s top five leagues.

Bielsa, who has worked with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Dimitri Payet and Ariel Ortega, has raved about the former Spain international, saying “one of the best players in his best position that I have worked with in my career.”

His omission from the team of the year came as somewhat of a shock then to fans as teammate Kalvin Phillips took his place alongside Jarrod Bowen from Hull City and Oliver Norwood of Sheffield United in the XI announced by the EFL on Tuesday.

The team is as follows: Darren Randolph (Middlesbrough), Jamal Lewis (Norwich City,) Liam Cooper (Leeds United), Reece James (Wigan Athletic), Max Aarons (Norwich City), Oliver Norwood (Sheffield United), Kalvin Phillips (Leeds United), Jarrod Bowen (Hull City), Che Adams (Birmingham City), Billy Sharp (Sheffield United), Teemu Pukki (Norwich City), Manager – Chris Wilder (Sheffield United)

With 95 chances created (the most in the division) from 31 games, Hernandez may well use his rejection as motivation to fire Leeds back to the Premier League.
