Manchester City transfer news: Harry Maguire wanted by Pep Guardiola but he’ll cost more than Liverpool ace Virgil van Dijk

Manchester City are interested in signing Harry Maguire but would have to make him the world’s most expensive defender to bring him to the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola wants to sign a replacement for captain Vincent Kompany, who will join Anderlecht as player-manager when his contract expires this summer.

Leicester are said to want £90m for the England international, which would eclipse the £75m Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk when they made the Dutchman the most expensive defender ever in January 2018.

Foxes boss Rodgers is desperate to keep Maguire, who only signed a new five-year deal last September.

When asked about the centre-half’s future, Rodgers said: “There have been discussions. We just have to wait and see.

“I’d love him to stay. It depends on the player.”

After an impressive showing at the World Cup last summer, Manchester United wanted to bring Maguire to Old Trafford.
