But the EFL issued a statement on Saturday morning, saying: “The club has been instructed to now make the appropriate arrangements for the rearrangement of Saturday’s game at the earliest opportunity.

“In issuing this directive, the board is aware that a number of the clubs’ professional players may not make themselves available but is satisfied that a team can be selected from the players they have registered and available to them.”

The EFL said Bolton would have been forced to fulfil the Brentford fixture but for the under-18 team playing on Thursday and the potential player-welfare issues that would have caused the club.

“This same issue will not reoccur as the club is able to plan the players’ preparation and recovery time accordingly,” the EFL statement said.

“We deeply regret having to make the decision to suspend Saturday’s game and apologise for the inconvenience this will cause for all those involved, particularly the supporters of both Bolton Wanderers and Brentford.

“As stated yesterday, as a result of Bolton Wanderers not meeting its fixture obligations as per EFL regulations, the club will now be charged with misconduct and be referred to an independent disciplinary commission.

“Finally, the current ownership difficulties at the club remain a significant concern for the EFL and we will look to work with both parties over the next week to bring all outstanding matters to a speedy conclusion.

“It should be recognised that the resolution is not in our hands but we will assist where possible, with the long term interests of Bolton Wanderers and its supporters, our priority.”

Leeds United are eyeing a loan deal for Wolves winger Helder Costa.

The 25-year-old has been at the club since August 2016, initially on loan from Benfica, before making it permanent in January 2017 for £13m.

Portuguese winger Costa has been at Wolves since 2016 and won Player’s Player and Fans’ Player of the Season awards in his first term

Costa won Wolves’ Player of the Season Award in his first year and was part of the side that won promotion to the Premier League a year later.

He started 16 Premier League games last season, creating two goals, and Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa, who will remain at Elland Road next season, wants him to aid his promotion push, report The Sun.

Leeds were beaten in the Championship play-off semi-finals by Derby, and club owner Andrea Radrizzani said there is ‘unfinished business’.

There is also lot of speculation about potential new owners.

Rumours began to surface at the start of the week suggesting Qatar Sports Investments billionaire president Nasser Al-Khelaifi would be meeting Radrizzani in Doha with a view to buying the Whites.

French journalist Julien Laurens told talkSPORT a deal is actually tantalisingly close and could happen ‘sooner rather than later’.

“The owners of PSG, the Qatar Royal Family, are very keen on buying Leeds,” he revealed.

“They know the owner there very well, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who is the PSG chairman and who is very close to the Qatar Royal Family and he is very good friends with [the Leeds owner] Radrizzani.

“Just to explain it quickly, there is obviously big competition between the Qatar Royal Family and the Abu Dhabi Royal Family, who own Manchester City.

“And they have expanded their brand everywhere in the world; in Japan, in Australia, in the U.S and the MLS and in Spain as well.

“And in Qatar, they are thinking ‘well, we should be the same really’ to expand the brand and get a few clubs.

“And Leeds would very much be part of that.”

Chelsea news: Maurizio Sarri hit with misconduct charge for behaviour during Burnley draw

Maurizio Sarri has been charged with misconduct following his touchline dismissal during Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Burnley, the FA has confirmed.

Ugly scenes broke out towards the end of the Stamford Bridge clash on Monday night after the Blues boss was sent to the stands in stoppage time.

Maurizio Sarri was sent off during the Burnley draw

The FA said in a statement: “Maurizio Sarri has been charged with misconduct in relation to his behaviour in the 94th minute of Monday’s Premier League fixture between Chelsea and Burnley.

“The Chelsea manager has until 18:00 on Friday to provide a response.”

Reports have since emerged claiming Sarri was repeatedly called a ‘s*** Italian’ by members of Burnley’s backroom staff and Chelsea are believed to have lodged a formal complaint.

Chelsea assistant Gianfranco Zola confirmed Sarri was left offended by the alleged insults.

“I think he’s been offended as well, so he didn’t feel it was the right thing to do, to speak to you,” Zola said after the game.

“I think he’s been told something from their bench, but don’t ask me exactly what. I don’t want to go down that line, but we’ll see what we can do about that.

Hearts 1-3 Rangers: Steven Gerrard’s men put Celtic’s Scottish Premiership title celebrations on hold

Hearts 1-3 Rangers: Steven Gerrard’s men put Celtic’s Scottish Premiership title celebrations on hold

Celtic will have to wait to celebrate their Scottish Premiership title for one more week at least after Rangers beat Hearts 3-1 at Tynecastle.

Jermain Defoe, Ryan Jack and Nikola Katic were on the scoresheet meaning Neil Lennon’s champions elect will have to put the champagne on ice, at least until next weekend’s clash with Kilmarnock at Celtic Park.

Defoe opened the scoring to seal the deserved win for Rangers

Defoe opened the scoring to seal the deserved win for Rangers

The Hoops, who were hoping to celebrate their eighth straight title against Hibernian on Sunday, have now had their lead at the top temporarily cut back to eight points after seeing Steven Gerrard’s side once again dominate Craig Levein’s William Hill Scottish Cup finalists.

Hearts should have been on a high after booking their slot in next month’s Hampden clash with Lennon’s triple treble-chasers but all they had to cheer was Steven MacLean’s late consolation effort.

For the fourth time this season, Hearts contributed to their own downfall against Rangers by failing to match up to the Light Blues’ desire when pressing.

This was a big chance for the Jambos squad to press their claim for a starting slot on cup final day but some may find themselves disappointed come May 25 after this display.

Rangers, who have now racked up seven straight wins against Hearts, were still without the suspended Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent, while Hearts had to make a late swap with Craig Wighton taking over from the ill Sean Clare.

As usual, the tight surroundings in Gorgie made for a combative affair and there was not much in it early on.

Neither side could afford to be half-hearted and it was the Jambos who paid the price 15 minutes in as Wighton allowed Jon Flanagan to slide in and rob possession.

Glen Kamara pounced on the loose ball and immediately sent Defoe racing in behind. The veteran striker got his nose in front of John Souttar and the reported Rangers target could do nothing as the Englishman beat Zdenek Zlamal for his seventh Rangers strike.

The goal did jolt a response from Levein’s team. Uche Ikpeazu was allowed to roll Katic far too easily on the edge of the Rangers box but his wild shot soared over.

The big frontman then got his head to Zlamal’s long punt, sending Wighton racing beyond Connor Goldson, but the former Dundee man dragged his attempt wide.

The result means Celtic will not be crowned champions this weekend even if they beat Hibernian on Sunday

2

The result means Celtic will not be crowned champions this weekend even if they beat Hibernian on Sunday

And with nine minutes of the opening period to play, Rangers’ hunger to win the ball again got the better of the hosts.

Jack hared in to close down Ollie Bozanic, stripping the Australian of the ball on halfway before feeding it to Daniel Candeias. The midfielder did not hang about and, as he raced beyond Arnaud Djoum, his Portuguese colleague returned the ball into his path with only Zlamal to beat and Jack did the rest with a cool finish.

The clash was the first to be played at Tynecastle since chairwoman Ann Budge took the surprise decision to close a section of the Wheatfield Stand in a bid to combat recent incidents of fan misbehaviour.

But the rest of the home stands were soon starting to empty as Katic added number three in the 48th minute. Steven Davis rolled a short corner to Candeias, who hung up a cross to the back post for the big Croatian defender to slide home.

MacLean replaced Wighton midway through the second period and pulled one back in the 74 minute as his header from Jake Mulraney’s cross found the corner of the net.

But it was Rangers who came closest to adding another as Zlamal was forced to make two late stops to deny Glenn Middleton and Scott Arfield.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: How Manchester United boss compares to his predecessors after 19 games in charge

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has secured himself the manager’s job at Manchester United on a permanent basis after a superb spell as interim boss.

Solskjaer, 46, has suffered just one defeat in 13 league games, smashing several records along the way.

Incredibly, the Norwegian has a 73.7 win percentage in all competitions to date, winning 14 of his 19 games in charge, while drawing two land losing three.

But how does he compare to his predecessors after the same amount of games played?

talkSPORT.com takes a look at the last three below…

Jose Mourinho

The two-time Champions League winning boss came to United in the summer of 2016, following the departure of Louis van Gaal.

The former Chelsea boss, who won the Carabao Cup and Europa League during his two-year stint in Manchester, started off his United career in positive fashion with three wins on the bounce.

Jose Mourinho led Manchester United to Europa League glory in May 2017

Back-to-back league defeats against arch nemesis Manchester City and Watford, sandwiched between a disappointing 1-0 loss to Feyenoord, ended Mourinho’s honeymoon period in charge very swiftly.

The Red Devils responded with another sequence of three wins, before losing just one of their next six games thereafter – though they failed to register a single win in the Premier League during that time.

Another poor display in the Europa League, resulting in a 2-1 defeat at Fenerbahce, capped off a disappointing couple of months for Mourinho.

But it all ended in tears for Mourinho at Old Trafford

8

But it all ended in tears for Mourinho at Old Trafford

They started November in positive fashion, first beating Swansea on the road before drawing with Arsenal, winning their 19th game of the season in emphatic fashion against Feyenoord 4-0 at Old Trafford.

Mourinho’s record after his first 19 games at Old Trafford (in all competitions):

W10, D4, L5 – Overall win rate: 52.6 per cent

Louis van Gaal

The enigmatic Dutchman was at the helm at Old Trafford for just under two years, with Van Gaal sacked just two days after delivering his first trophy for the club, the FA Cup, back in May 2016.

His playing style wasn’t easier on the eye, but with that said he still proved to be a success during his time in charge of the Red Devils.

It didn’t start well for Van Gaal though, with the club enduring their worst start to a season since 1986/87, winning just three of their first 10 league games and languishing in ninth place.

Louis van Gaal was sacked by Manchester United after winning the FA Cup

8

Louis van Gaal was sacked by Manchester United after winning the FA Cup

The Red Devils made a dramatic recovery from that awful beginning to the season though, winning seven of their next eight league games.

After the 4-1 win over Newcastle on Boxing Day, United stood in a far healthier league position (third) and four points clear of fifth placed West Ham.

Van Gaal’s record after his first 19 games at Old Trafford (in all competitions):

W10, D5, L4 – Overall win rate: 52.6 per cent

David Moyes

Moyes was sacked as United boss in April 2014, only 10 months after succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson.

The former Everton and West Ham boss was chosen by Ferguson to  be his successor when he retired after 26 years in charge of the club in May 2013.

And while it all ended in disaster, the first few months of Moyes’ reign in Manchester weren’t all that bad.

A rampant win on the road at Swansea ensured Moyes started his United career in the best possible way, securing another four wins from his first 10 games in charge.

The Red Devils went the next nine games unbeaten after that point, recording six wins and three draws.

Moyes’ record after his first 19 games at Old Trafford (in all competitions):

W11, D5, L3 – Overall win rate: 57.9 per cent

But how does Solskjaer compare with rivals Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino?
