Trent Alexander-Arnold has explained the thinking behind his amazing assist for Divock Origi’s winning goal against Barcelona on Tuesday night.
The 20-year-old defender created an unfathomable 79th minute decider as Liverpool came from three goals down to remarkably beat Barca 4-3 on aggregate and reach the final of the Champions League.
After an incredible effort saw the Reds haul the game back to be on level terms, a moment of magic from Alexander-Arnold gave Divock Origi the opportunity to win the tie.
In the 79th minute, Liverpool earned a corner and – before the entire Barcelona defence were awake to the situation – Trent fired a low ball in to Origi.
The Belgian smashed home from close range and fired Liverpool to the final.
“Honestly I think it was just instinctive,†Alexander-Arnold explained at full-time.
“It was just one of those moments where you just see the opportunity.
“It probably came at him [Origi] a bit fast, but he’s a top player, scored two goals for us tonight.
“It’s one of them where everyone will remember this moment.â€
The Englishman’s assist drew plenty of praise from across the football world with many branding him a ‘genius.’
